On Wednesday 6 hikers came out to hike at Bolt Mountain located outside Grants Pass. We were all happy to see that the weather had cleared up and we had lots of blue sky with some clouds.
We started from the lower parking lot on the Nature Trail. We crossed the stream using the metal bridge. From there, we connected to the Bolt Mountain Trail. The recent rains made for muddy conditions at the bottom of the trail. After making our way around the mud, we then climbed up the rocky trail.
After a short time we saw some yellow flowers in bloom. They were the same as the ones we saw last week. We stopped for a snack and could see a flashing light. Liz was the only one who could see that it was on a tower. After zooming in with our cameras we could tell it was a light on a tower.
We continued up to the top and had a wonderful lunch in the sunshine. We could see Eight Dollar Mountain near where we hiked last week. There were other mountains with snow, but our peak finder apps were not consistent in identifying them.
We headed back down towards our cars. When we were back to the spot we saw the blinking light, it was obvious it was on a tower. The way the sunlight hit it made a big difference in what we could see.
We made it back to our cars at a little after 2 PM. We had hiked 6.55 miles and gained 1,308 feet of elevation.
